Description

Overview

Brave Wallet is a self-custody crypto wallet natively integrated into the Brave privacy browser — no extensions or third-party downloads required.

Key Features

  • Multi-chain support — Ethereum, EVM-compatible chains, Solana, Filecoin, and Zcash (including private shielded transactions)
  • Built-in DEX aggregator — Swap tokens directly on Solana and Ethereum/EVM chains without leaving the wallet
  • NFT gallery — View and manage NFTs across supported chains in a unified interface
  • Hardware wallet support — Connect Ledger and Trezor devices (desktop, mobile support coming)
  • Fiat on-ramp — Buy crypto with a credit card or bank transfer directly within the wallet
  • Market data — Live price feeds and market rankings powered by CoinGecko

Why Brave Wallet

Unlike browser extension wallets that run in a limited WebView, Brave Wallet is built into a full-featured privacy browser, giving it superior security and functionality. It inherits Brave's strict privacy protections and is less susceptible to phishing attacks common with third-party extensions.

The wallet is fully open-source and has been audited by specialized security engineers.

Use Cases

  • Store, send, and receive digital assets across multiple blockchains
  • Connect to decentralized applications (DApps) for DeFi, NFTs, gaming, and social
  • Manage your full crypto portfolio — tokens and NFTs — from one interface
  • Execute token swaps via integrated DEX aggregators
  • Make private transactions using Zcash shielded addresses
Highlights

Pros

  • Supports six blockchain networks: Ethereum, EVM chains, Solana, Filecoin, Zcash (shielded), and Bitcoin SegWit.
  • Inherits Brave's strict privacy protections — ad blocking, anti-fingerprinting, and tracker blocking by default.
  • Built-in DEX aggregator via 0x and Jupiter enables direct token swaps without leaving the wallet.
  • Built natively into the Brave browser — no extension download needed, reducing phishing attack surface.
  • Fully open-source (MPL 2.0) and independently audited by specialized security engineers.

Cons

  • Bitcoin support was only added in February 2024 — originally the wallet lacked BTC entirely.
  • Hardware wallet support (Ledger/Trezor) is desktop-only; mobile support is still listed as coming soon.
  • Exclusive to the Brave browser — cannot be used on Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser.
  • Past controversy: in 2020 Brave was found auto-inserting affiliate referral codes into crypto exchange URLs typed in the address bar.
